How to Price Your Vintage Resale Items? The Ultimate Guide to Selling Without Underselling

How to Price Your Vintage Resale Items? The Ultimate Guide to Selling Without Underselling

You just received your vintage clothing bundle, sorted it, took the photos… and now, THE question: how much should I sell this piece for?
Too expensive = it won’t sell.
Too cheap = you lose money.

Here’s a simple guide to pricing your items like a pro so you can maximize your profit without slowing down sales.

Understand the True Value of a Piece

💡 Before setting a price, ask yourself:

  • Brand: Is it Nike, Adidas, Ralph Lauren, Lacoste?

  • Condition: Like new? Lightly worn? Small stain?

  • Rarity: Is it a classic or something hard to find?

  • Style: Is it on-trend right now? (Y2K, old money, streetwear…)

Example:
A basic Nike hoodie in good condition? Suggested price: €20–€35
A rare 90s Nike hoodie with an embroidered logo? Aim for €50–€70

Research the Market (and the Platforms)

🔍 Take 5 minutes to check:

  • Vinted: Search for similar pieces, filter by “sold items”

  • Instagram: Check what similar resellers are offering

  • TikTok: Look at pricing in live sales or video descriptions

You’ll quickly get a feel for average price ranges.

Use the 2x Rule (Max)

At United Vintage, most of our resellers follow a simple formula:
➡️ Resell each item for 2 to 2.5x their purchase price.

Example:
A branded 10kg bundle at €170 = around 25 pieces
→ Average cost per item: €6.80
→ Target resale price per item: €14–€20
→ Solid net margin (after fees)

Adjust Prices by Platform

  • On Vinted: Buyers look for good deals → focus on volume

  • On Instagram: You can charge more thanks to visuals and branding

  • On TikTok: Play the “love at first sight” card to sell standout pieces fast

Test, Learn & Track

✏️ List an item at €25 → if no bites, drop to €22, then €20.
The goal isn’t to sell everything in 24h, but to figure out what works best for you.

Track:

  • What sells fast

  • What sits too long

  • Which platform works best

→ You’ll improve 10x faster.

Bottom Line: Pricing is a Strategy

You don’t need to be a vintage expert to price well.
With a bit of research, solid stock knowledge, and consistent adjustments, you can sell profitably without underselling.

And remember — everything starts with good stock:
✔️ Nike, Ralph, Lacoste, Branded, USA, Hoodies…
