Title, tags, categories: A checklist for perfect SEO

You have some great vintage pieces, you take the time to photograph them… but they’re not selling? Maybe your problem isn’t the quality of the clothes, but how you’re listing them.

On Vinted, just like anywhere else, if no one finds you, no one will buy from you. So today, we’re giving you the ultimate checklist to help your items show up at the top of search results. And as always, if you want to stock your shop with real vintage gems:
👉 come stock up at United Vintage

🎯 1. A crystal-clear and precise title

Your title should describe exactly what you're selling. Forget about "Gorgeous, super-stylish top"—no one is searching for that. What people actually type in is:

  • "Vintage Jean Levis 501, size 40,"

  • "Beige oversized Nike sweatshirt,"

  • "Retro brown leather jacket".

Your title checklist:

  • Check ✔

  • Type of clothing ✔

  • Color ✔

  • Size ✔

  • Style (vintage, oversized, etc.) ✔

🔖 2. Well-chosen tags = more views

Tags are there to increase the chances that your article will appear in search results. Use relevant and varied keywords, keeping in mind what a buyer might type.

✅ Examples of good tags for a vintage sweater:
vintage, sweater, oversized, the 1990s, grunge, secondhand, unisex, Winter, laidback, retro look.

❌ Avoid tags that don't mean anything or are duplicates: "sweater," "sweaters," "sweats," etc.

📂 3. Choosing the right category is essential

Are you selling a pair of shorts but listing them under “Skirts”? That’s a bad idea. Vinted will penalize you for it. Be as specific as possible when choosing categories—that’s what helps the algorithm better recommend your item to buyers.

✅ Golden rule: Even if your item is unisex, choose just one category (e.g., Men > Sweatshirts), then specify in the description whether it’s suitable for both men and women.

✍️ 4. Bonus: The description cannot be empty

Even though it isn't the most important factor for the algorithm, a good description puts buyers at ease. Add:

  • details about the condition,

  • accurate measurements,

  • outfit ideas (“perfect with high-waisted jeans”),

  • the phrase “one-of-a-kind vintage piece” if that’s the case (which it often is!).

📈 In a nutshell: the winning trio for selling on Vinted

🔹 A clear title packed with keywords:
🔹 Smart tags that cover all the styles people are searching for:
🔹 The exact category (neither too broad nor misleading).
